The Equine Photographer

Cheesy as it might seem, I really do feel that I have a special connection with animals and I honestly believe there really is no deeper bond than one between a horse and a person. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to learn to horse ride when I was younger and absolutely adored being around these majestic creatures. The trust you have to have between you is immense and a real privilege. I adore taking fine-art equine photography, I love being able to show real intimacy in the images I capture and by doing this really capturing the spirit of the horse.

STEP 1:
BOOKING AND CONSULTATION

Firstly, thank you for your interest in The Equine Photographer (that’s me, Michelle Howie). I am thrilled that you like what you see and are considering booking in a session. To get in touch you can fill out the form below (make sure you include your phone number) I will send you out a brochure and call you back within 24 hours to talk through the whole process in more detail. This is your opportunity to ask me anything about what the experience involves and to find out why you should hire me . Once you feel you have all the information and trust to do so, we will book you in for your sessions. It is at this point that we can begin our pre-session consultation; each and every experience is tailored to meet your needs and designed around the final art-work for your home. To achieve this we will discuss what you want from the shoot and if there are any items (sentimental or fun) that you want included. I will be able to offer my professional opinion and make suggestions for the upcoming shoot.  After our phone call, I will send you a confirmation email which includes the details of the shoot (but don’t worry, I will also call you as a friendly reminder nearer the time), a contract which outlines our services and features of all the prints and wall art we offer.

STEP 2:
THE PHOTO-SHOOT EXPERIENCE

The shoot itself will take place at your home stables or on a location of your choosing (which will be decided upon during the initial consultation). For locations sessions, I suggest that the shoot take place somewhere that your horse is safe, relaxed and uber happy. If you need help in choosing a location, I have a list of tried and tested places and would be happy to suggest some of my favourites.  Some shoots are spread between a number of outdoor locations in order to capture the many sides of your horses’s personality. Depending on the locations, the day, the horse(s) and the light sessions may take anywhere between 45mintues-3hours. However, as my aim is for your pet to be at its most relaxed and to capture its true personality and in order to do this a horse needs time to trust you, therefore the above timings are just a guide and I will work entirely at the animals pace.

STEP 3:
THE FINAL ARTWORK

Last but certainly not least in the process is the artwork. A week or so after your shoot, I will invite you to join me at the studio, at your home or even a coffee shop for your viewing session. Your images are presented in a slideshow and you will have an opportunity to look over them all closely. You will then have the task of narrowing down your favourites; because there are inevitably so many great photos to choose from, this can be difficult – but don’t worry – I’m on hand to help and can bring you back to our initial consultation and discuss which image(s) best suit your needs. Once you have made your choices, all you have to do is eagerly await the arrival of your bespoke piece of art. Although this may seem like the end of our journey (and for many photographers, this would be), this is just the beginning, you are now a fully fledged member of the Michelle Howie Photography Family and as a thank you for putting your trust in me, you will be invited to exclusive complimentary photographic events and will enjoy the benefits of the referral programme.
