Belle is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Rupert is a Pitbull, both restricted breeds in Ireland. Their owners Andrea and Andrew rescued both of these beauties.
Prior to being rescued, Belle (now approx. 10 years old) had been used solely for breeding and the extent of damage was so bad that she had to have her womb removed. Rupert is only 9 months old and was found walking the streets of Dublin by Andrew. When no-one came forward to claim Rupert, Andrea and Andrew (and their two children) were relieved as they would have been heart-broken to say goodbye, he was already a member of the family.
Belle and Rupert have a beautiful bond – Rupert is very much in puppy mode, he loves licking and jumping and is naturally excited by anything and everything around him. Belle is a gentle and placid soul who has taken on a mother role to Rupert. Many older dogs can get irritated by puppies but Belle is so incredibly tolerant and has nothing but love for her boy.
The aim of The Restricted Project is to give people a chance to see these restricted breeds in a different light to how they are usually perceived. This is Belle, all you have to do is look into her eyes to see just the gentle and affectionate soul she is and this is Rupert a playful puppy with nothing but love to give. So if you see them on the street please don’t cross the road to avoid them, give them a cuddle, ignore the slobber and enjoy lots of kisses!
